Jensense has reported on a interesting development over at the SEWBlog for Amazon.
Amazon have launched a new pay per click (ppc) program entitled ClickRiver which will allow you to place sponsored adverts directly on their product pages. At the moment, this seems to be exclusively for Amazon.com, so it will be interesting to see how this develops if its to make its way over to the .co.uk.
What is Clickriver Ads?
“Clickriver Ads is an advertising program — currently in beta — that allows businesses to place sponsored links on Amazon.com®, next to search results and on product detail pages. Clickriver Ads presents a unique opportunity to advertise services and products that complement the selection on Amazon.com, an online marketplace with tens of millions of active customer accounts.
We welcome service providers of all types to apply to join the beta — in travel, finance and investment, training and education, entertainment, insurance, healthcare and physical fitness, IT assistance and consulting, photo printing and more. In addition, we welcome retailers who want to advertise products that complement those sold on Amazon.com.
Clickriver Ads was created by A9.com®, a search technologies company based in Palo Alto, California. A9.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon.com.”

Further interesting news regarding this development is that ClickRiver ads will be non exclusive, so Amazon will continue to run sponsored listings from other third parties.
To the contary of what Jensense originally suggested in her aticle, Clickz reports that “it is likely that Clickriver Ads will block competing retailers from purchasing advertising on product pages”.
