So a couple of weeks back there was a post over at Threadwatch about a guy called Ted Leonsis, the vice chairman of AOL, where he pretty much boasted about ranking for his own name via his blog. Some feat.
Here’s an of extract from John Andrews blog;
Ted Leonsis is Vice Chairman of AOL. He wants to control the Google SERPs for his own name. He doesn’t need an SEO, because he is an SEO. According to the Washington post story, Ted Leonsis was driven by a desire to rank for his own name about a year ago, so he started blogging.
My particular fave is from the original article in the Washington Post;
The point wasn’t as much vanity (well, maybe a tad) as it was an exercise in understanding how the mysterious Google algorithm works. As of Friday, a Google search for “Ted Leonsis” brought his profile from the AOL company Web site, followed by a page from “Ted’s Take” and then his biography on the Washington Capitals Web site. “A few weeks ago, I e-mailed some people I told I would do this in a year, and I wrote, ‘My job is done!’ ” Leonsis said.
It was a bit like dangling a carrot in front of a donkey really? It was only a matter of time before someone decided to have a little fun… and it seems Graywolf didn’t disappoint. He’s the first to give out a lesson in seo & reputation management. Check out his post about Ted Leonsis.
A couple of weeks later and where is it? Well, I’m making it around 8th in the SERP over here in the UK. I wonder if Ted will like the description..

Quite amusing. More on this over at Graywolf.
Update…
There is now a SEO contest in place to rank for Ted Leonis, with $500 to the winner. Currently the top spots are occupied by;
- An AOL who is of Ted Leonsis
- Ted Leonsis own blog, Teds take
- Wiki of Ted Leonsis
- A Washington Caps page about Ted Leonsis
- Imedia Connection on Ted Leonsis
- Next up is Graywolf’s original SEO piece aiming to rank for Ted Leonsis
- The Threadwatch news article on Ted Leonsis
- Technorati on Ted Leonsis
- A piece on Edge about Ted Leonsis ‘the marketeer’
- Finally the Washing Post article that started this whole Ted Leonsis SEO contest
So keep an eye on the SERPs.

>I wonder if Ted will like the description.
