It is really unfortunate when you see sites come up high in search rankings when they clearly don't deserve to be there.

I think it's a bad data push, which is unsolved yet (8 days after Matt's message). I really don't want to think that this is the new Google algo, as a lot of junk sites comes to top of SERPs. If yes, it means that Google made a big step back in terms of relevance and quality of SERP.

Update on WMW from Matt Cutts - "I don't consider those rankings indicative of anything coming in the future. Some data went into the index without all of our quality signals incorporated, and it should be mostly back to normal and continuing to get back to normal over the course of the day."

I noticed this too in the early beginning of yesterday evening, in a while lots of serps totally changed themself.

I read a lot about from different sources, somebody says it is an algorithm test for backlink, other says it was a test for keyword inside domain name, other again says that it is a test only for domain homepages...

But It's very hard to find the real cause because there were no common things between sites that were "moved"...

Btw I saw that the top placements were taken by early released domains and social media sites... so it could be a test algorithm to promote fresh contents as Google already manage to do with news?

Probably we will never discover what managed that, but the important thing is in this very moment all the datacenter are rolled back to the "original" serps.
